Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz.: Atractylodes is a perennial herb in the composite family, with a height of up to 60 cm and a nodular rhizome. Stems erect, all smooth and glabrous. Leaves alternate, leaves pinnately divided, lateral lobes oblanceolate, elliptic or long elliptic, top lobes larger than lateral lobes, all leaves thin, papery, green on both sides, glabrous, head like inflorescence, single stem branch top, bracts green, needle like pinnately divided. Involucre broad bell shaped, purple red at the top. Achene is inverted conical, flowering and fruiting from August to October.
    This species also has many commercialized names. For example, it is named according to the rhizome shape of crude medicine, or crane shaped technique, golden thread technique, or Atractylodes leg, according to the place of origin, such as emblem technique, and according to the season when the rhizome is unearthed, such as winter technique. The quality of Yushu (Zhejiang Yuqian) is better. The medicine has the function of transporting the spleen. It has bitter, warm and bitter taste. It has the effect of drying dampness, removing turbidity and relieving pain.
