This medicinal root plant belongs to the Araliaceae family of flowering plants in the genus: Panax. Its two main species: Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) and its close relative, American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium L.) considered as the true cultivar types of this rhizome.
Asia Ginseng, (Panax Ginseng C.A.Mayer)and mainly come from China and Korean. Chinese Ginseng mainly grows in Changbai Mountain which is one of world grade natural conservation area.
American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius Linn), closely related to Panax Ginseng. It is indigenous to Eastern Canada and Appalachian mountain.

White ginseng is artificially cultivated, and its medicinal value is lower than that of wild ginseng. The difference between white and red ginseng
Ginseng is broadly divided into red ginseng and white ginseng (raw and sun-dried ginseng) according to the processing method. Initially, raw ginseng was processed into red ginseng for long-term preservation purposes.
However, with the development of various technologies, the difference between red ginseng and white ginseng began to show its difference gradually.
1. Processing and manufacturing:
White ginseng is made by drying water ginseng (raw ginseng) directly. Red ginseng is made by steaming water ginseng (75% moisture) or white ginseng (12% moisture) under certain process conditions.
2. Physical properties:
Compared with white ginseng, red ginseng has a dense and firm content, and good storage properties. Red ginseng is generally valid for 10 years, while white ginseng is about 2 years.
3. Composition:
Red ginseng and white ginseng have common ingredients. In the process of steaming, red ginseng will undergo chemical reaction and change in composition due to heat treatment. G-Rh2 and Panaxytriol have the effect of inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, and malto1 has the effect of antioxidant.
