Cranberries are a popular superfood. People can consume them in the form of a sauce or a juice. They can also add them to stuffing, casseroles, or dessert. These highly nutritious berries are also a staple of Thanksgiving dinner.
Cranberries are native to North America. They now grow on around 58,000 acres of farmland across the northern United States, Chile, and Canada.
Many people consider cranberries to be a superfood due to their high nutrient and antioxidant content.
In fact, research has linked the nutrients in cranberries to a lower risk of urinary tract infection (UTI), the prevention of certain types of cancer, improved immune function, and decreased blood pressure.
Cranberry, also known as Vacinium macrocarpon, is a small evergreen shrub dwarf vine plant of the genus Vacinium macrocarpon. It mainly grows in acidic peat soils in the cool regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Together with concord grape and blueberry, it is considered as one of the three traditional fruits in North America. Cranberries are popular because they are high in water, low in calories, high in fiber and minerals.
1.Cranberry have antioxidant function in vivo and in vitro experiments, especially flavonols and procyanidins have preventive effect on atherosclerosis.
2.Cranberry contain a variety of flavonols such as hyperin, five hydroxyl flavonoids, and myricetin, which together with anthocyanin determine the color of cranberry fruits. Flavonols have strong antioxidant activity, can inhibit the oxidation of low density lipoprotein cholesterol, reduce the level of triglyceride in the blood, and help promote the cardiovascular health of human body.
3.Cranberry are low in sodium and high in potassium, which makes them good for lowering blood pressure. Cranberry juice has been found to lower blood pressure by stimulating endothelial cells to produce nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels. This helps explain how cranberries can help promote healthy blood pressure levels.
